Welcome to Dalton Township

From the Clerk's Office:

Listed below are the 2008 Election dates scheduled. Also listed are new state laws that affect voters and additional information as well. Thanks for visiting daltontownship.org.

Elections scheduled for 2008 are as follows: (more elections may be scheduled)

January 15, 2008 Presidential Primary (unless the parties cancel the election)

May 6, 2008 Annual School Election

August 5, 2008 Primary Election

November 4, 2008 General Election

Many offices will be elected in 2008 ranging from federal and state, to local township offices. Proposals will also be voted upon.

If you are interested in running for a township office, i.e., Supervisor, Treasurer, Clerk or Trustee (4) the deadline to file for the same is May 13, 2008 at 4:00 p.m.

Pursuant to a new state law, voters must show picture I.D. at the polls when voting. If a voter does not have a picture I.D. then they must fill out an affidavit attesting that he or she is not in possession of picture identification at the moment, and they will be allowed to vote. Types of acceptable ID's are driver license, personal ID card, federal or state government (not county) issued photo ID, US passport, military ID card with photo, student ID with photo, tribal ID card with photo. This does NOT affect anyone who will be voting absentee.
Pursuant to another new state law, a new absentee voter list must be compiled. Voters wishing to receive an application to request an absentee ballot must make a new request to the clerk's office. Even if you have requested to be placed on the permanent absentee list in the past you must make a new request. Otherwise I can not automatically send you an application for you to request an absentee ballot any longer as I have since 2000. If you wish to continue to receive an application to request an absentee ballot, call or write to us and make that request. On another note, some people ask why they have to fill out an application to request a ballot for every election. This is state law and has nothing to do with township operations.
Please call me, Mary Ellen Sherwood, your Clerk, or Stacy Russell, your Deputy Clerk, with any questions (231) 766-3043, or write to me at 1616 E. Riley Thompson Road, Muskegon, MI 49445.

On another note: We continue to work hard in the clerk's office. We perform many duties besides elections. Some other functions that we perform are, accounts payable, all human resource duties including payroll and associated reporting, year end reporting to the state and federal government, insurance administration for the township and employees, cemetery management, voter registration, maintain all computerized general ledger accounts and accounting duties, assist with annual budget, clerk to the township board, take and type minutes of board meetings, maintain township records and retention of the same, secretary for the fire commission, working on the LUCA Census Project, and many other associated duties.

Feel free to call with any questions, concerns, or comments that you may have (231) 766-3043.

Have a blessed holiday season and also a blessed 2008.

Mary Ellen Sherwood, Clerk & Stacy Russell, Deputy Clerk
